Welcome to my monthly newsletter where I share thoughts on life and creativity, as well as new music (and sometimes free downloads).
Thought of the day
I saw the most beautiful rainbow this week. The view outside my living room window is pretty dull these days: a mixture of browns and greys, alongside the never-ending London traffic. It used to be beautiful - the whole building used to be overgrown with ivy for many years - until last year, when they cut it all down. Once a miniature paradise: an abundance of green leaves, birds, insects, squirrels. Now: barren. Just another window. But things change. And often, we can’t control it. Little things like this remind me that I can’t live in the past. There is only now. But there’s always the potential of another rainbow on the horizon.
Music of the month
Two beautiful songs have found their way into the digital world this week:
Returning Home is a collaboration with the amazing Mark Sutton. I’ve been admiring his work for years and am so glad we finally released a song together. If you’re in the market for something ethereal and soothing, this is the track for you.
You can stream or download the song here.
Only a Dream is a beautiful song by my dear friend and long-term collaborator Ted Ganger. This recording was made for our short film Five Moments (a film about grief based on five art songs) which is currently still showing in festivals across the globe. We are planning on releasing the whole film on YouTube eventually - in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this excerpt.
You can watch the video here.
And coming up next month:
Live (I) is a short EP with live recordings of two of my songs, and will be released to streaming platforms on the 7th of April. I’m hoping to record more of my music this way in the near future.
You can pre-save the release here.
My Creative Process
I find myself working almost around the clock recently. Interestingly, hardly ever have I worked on so many projects I cared about. It feels like something within me has been unlocked. Things have fallen into place. They make sense. I enjoy the grind in a way that I haven’t in years.
Meanwhile, my upcoming album Natural Darkness is taking more and more shape. There is a certain degree of “one step forward, two steps back” to the process - at least it feels that way at times. However, the album is now over 80% completed. I’m currently still waiting on a few collaborations and remixes, and I’ve yet to write a final song or two to complete it.
I’m also in the process of shooting a number of music videos. I’ll likely be sharing some behind-the-scenes pictures with you in my next newsletter.
